Mental Health Policy Forum: Building a Stronger System
sponsored by
Co-presented by Thresholds and IARF, this policy forum brings together advocates, providers, policy- and lawmakers, and insurance companies to discuss the pressing issues that face our state. Help us generate ideas and action for mental health and substance use policy for the changing Medicaid system in Illinois.
The public sector pays for fully 60% of all mental health care, largely because we have failed at prevention and early intervention. It takes an average of 10 years for a young adult with a serious mental illness to get a diagnosis and treatment. Their symptoms spiral out of control – it becomes nearly impossible to finish school, hold down a job, or maintain relationships. Severe disability, poverty, homelessness, criminal justice involvement, frequent hospitalizations, and institutionalization are the end result. The mental health system is failing so many, and there are extraordinary human and financial costs.
Solutions to these issues are on the table! Spend the morning with mental health policy experts and lawmakers at the Thresholds-IARF mental health policy forum to explore and advance these solutions. The event includes breakfast and is free of charge.
Online registration is closed. Please contact Emily Moen at emily.moen@thresholds.org if you are interested in attending.
